Hi, I’m Mike Muha. I’ve been a Nordic ski racer since 1981, and I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the Michigan Cup skiing community since day one.
When I first launched NordicSkiRacer.com back on June 16, 2001, it came out of my own frustration as a master skier trying to get faster. Finding basic info back then was a scavenger hunt. Race schedules and results were scattered everywhere, technique tips were locked in books, and live trail reports didn't exist. The site started as a way to give back—consolidating calendars, sharing training logs, and building a place for skiers to trade updates.
Fast forward to today, and we are officially celebrating 25 years of keeping the Michigan Cup community connected. Over the last two and a half decades, the snow has changed, technology has changed, and it’s time for a major milestone upgrade. To mark this silver anniversary, I am incredibly excited to introduce a complete, top-to-bottom rewrite of NordicSkiRacer.com! I built it from scratch using modern technology to make it faster, smoother, and packed with new features to carry us into the next generation.
Here is a look at what’s new:
- Powerful Category & Tag Filtering: You can now instantly filter articles, events, trails, and trail reports to find exactly what you need. Looking for specific race series? Filter events by whether they are part of the Brumbaugh Cup. Trying to plan your weekend workout? Filter trails by whether they groom for skating.
- Photo Uploads for Trail Reports: A picture is worth a thousand words when it comes to snow conditions. You can now upload a photo directly to your trail report so everyone can see the grooming and coverage firsthand.
- 1-to-5 Star Condition Ratings: Quickly gauge the tracks before you head out. We’ve added a simple 1-to-5 star rating system to trail reports, making it easier than ever to log and read current trail conditions.
- Seamless Social Sharing: Want to rally your ski buddies or share a great race recap? We’ve added better support for sharing articles, events, and trail reports directly to your favorite social media platforms.
The look might be brand new, but the mission remains the exact same as it was 25 years ago: supporting the Michigan Cup and giving Nordic skiers the best tools to train, race, and connect.
