January 18, 2026 dawned with a foot of heavy new snow on both the JACK RABBIT 3.5k and FLYING SQUIRREL 5k racecourses. Middle and High School skiers from Nubs Nob, Vasa Raptor and Crystal Nordic teams showed their grit and strength in these tough conditions. Middle school skiers raced up a brutally steep climb at the finish of their 3.5 course; high schoolers had a twisty, flat warm- up but soon were cranking up the iconic Aspen Climb and the unrelenting Flying Squirrel Loop, with a crushing fast downhill finish at the bottom of Stag.

Middle School podiums spots went to Crystal Nordic's Anna Higley (1st in 16:49), Crystal Nordic's Elizabeth Armstrong (2nd in 17:07), and Vasa Flyer Annelise Rutledge in 3rd in 17:37.
For the boys, we saw a Vasa Flyer podium sweep: Arrow Cole (1st, 13:34), Adrien Wierzba (2nd,n13:47), and Asher Schwartz, 3rd in 14:17.
High School girl podiums went to Raptor Lindsey Smith (1st in 24:03), Crystal Nordic's Avery Kelly (2nd in 24:16), and Ava Higley 3rd in 24:55.
Vasa Raptor boys also swept the High School podium – Solomon Debruyn in 1st (20:44), Finn Frost Grayson 2nd (20:46), and Harrison Jeffries, 3rd in 22:20.
