Jordyn Ross (Grand Rapid Nordic) took her second victory this weekend (14:43), winning Sunday's Forbush Corner Time Trial after taking the winner's podium in Saturday's Lakes of the North Winterstart. Rebecca Davis (Hanson Hills / Cross Country Ski Shop) came in second, for the second time this weekend, and Mariah Frye-Colie was third. The podium duplicated yesterday's podium finish - obviously, we can see who the big contenders are for this year's Michigan Cup!
Team NordicSkiRacer's Kyle Hanson beat Vasa's Sam Holmes to the finish by 3 seconds (12:32), getting his revenge as Holmes beat him the day before at Lakes of the North. Vasa's Kevin Tarras was third.
The time trial ended up being a 5k interval-like workout, using the valley, backwards through most of roller coaster, finishing down the two way back to the shop. Feedback from the racers was really positive, citing trail conditions were better than expected. Fast and controlled skiing, and thin spots were limited, easy to see and avoid.
Five-person wave starts worked well, limiting congestion.
People hung around after getting in some k’s, enjoying the nice weather and complimentary chili. Trails held up throughout the day.
