Michigan Cup spokesperson Ernie Brumbaugh officially announced the Michigan Cup "Youth" Race Development Program yesterday. The fund is designed to promote Nordic Ski Racing by providing funding for young people between the ages of 13-20 years old participating in Michigan Cup Nordic Ski Race Series.
To receive an award, skiers must be between 13 and 20 years old, and be a member of a Michigan Cup team.
To avoid disqualification of athletes from either high school or college eligibility no financial aide can be dispersed directly to either the athlete or their parents/guardians. The Michigan Cup can make grants to various programs and let those programs make decisions as to how to disperse the aide.
Michigan Cup teams are responsible for determining who and what programs merit consideration. If you are a youth or have a youth that you believe has merit, you should contact your team captain.
Team Captains (not the youth or parents) will submit an application package to the Michigan Cup Nordic Fund Committee no later than December 1. The package must include:
- A letter from proposed recipient addressing need of funding.
- A letter from Team Member recommending funding.
- The proposed Funding Request, which must specify the equipment, travel expenses, entry fee with intended races, etc. This must include dollar amounts.
The Michigan Cup Funds Committee reviews the applications and awards funds. The Committee might fully fund, partially fund, or not fund the request.
