Forbush Corners Snow & Trail Report
Dec 27, 2001

Trail Conditions on Wednesday. Conditions at Forbush Corners were good enough yesterday (Wed, 12/26/01) that I felt comfortable skiing on my good skate racing skis. There's was a little bit of dirt showing through, but the trail overall was hardpack with a little fluffy stuff on top. The snow pack is thin - a high volume of skiers could pull up dirt from underneath.

Classic skiing wasn't as good - there was a little "natural" stone grinding going on in some tracks. The think snow cover means frequently undulations and very shallow tracks. I went striding late in the afternoon while it was snowing and had problems with snow shear - my wax stuck to the new snow, which tended not to adhere to the hardpack tracks underneath.

More snow was in the forecast, so skiing will just get better.

Dave had about 10K open, including Rollercoaster, Lil Coaster (a new, fun 2.1K trail), and Pancake. Even though Dave lost access to some of his trails because of new ownership of land he leased, he was able to cut several new trails and should have just as much terrain this year as last.
