Snowmaking at Huron Meadows Metropark

Snowmaking!

Ski on a 2.5km light man-made snow trail

Huron Meadows has been making snow for 10 years and the operation has been emulated by several ski trails around the United States. Huron Meadows uses three state-of-the-art snow guns to create mountains of snow that are then spread across Buck's Run, a 2.5km trail that is lit at night. Buck's Run groomed with a skate lane and classic track for normal ski days, and there is a $5 charge for using the trail to offset snowmaking expenses (the rest of the Huron Meadows ski trails are free - you just need a daily or annual pass to enter the park).

For the Frosty Freestyle, the course is groomed with a skate lane and classic track. For the Krazy Klassic, the main woods loop is triple tracked, with a double track to and from the woods to the turn-around point / start / finish (as shown in the picture above).

If we have natural snow, the race is run on the regular cross country ski trail at Huron Meadows.

About

All proceeds from the Frosty Freestyle, Krazy Klassic, and Learn to Ski program are donated to Huron Meadows Metropark to help fund ski instructors, cross country ski trail development, snow making, and rental equipment. We’re all volunteers who simply want to see everyone get out and enjoy the winter!
