LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

TUE, FEB 4

Huron Meadows Metropark: Crispy cold at 1830 running fast in firm machine snow classic tracks. Toko blue gave great glide, skins did good on uphills.

Vasa Trail: Ditto Bryce, I skied the entire 27k loop and snow coverage is better than has been in a very long time. The piston bully has been out 3 out of the last 4 days and with a couple more passes this will be the best trail conditions the Vasa has ever seen. If you are reading this and you are from WI or MN, it is not too late to register and join the fun. Northern Michigan has the more snow than anywhere in the Midwest. www.vasa.org

Corsair Ski Trails: Yesterday’s snowfall looks great on the Corsair Ski Trails! Groomer Dan has rolled, packed and set tracks on the Silver Valley and Corsair trail sections. He has also rolled and packed the Lost Lake loop in the Wright’s Lake trail section. The parking lots have been plowed and we’re ready for skiers. Come out and enjoy the winter forest !!!

Vasa Trail: If you’ve been sitting on the fence about registering for this weekend’s Vasa races because of “iffy” conditions, it’s time to jump in! Yesterday’s 5+” snow was Pisten Bully groomed last night. The skate lane is still a bit soft, and lake effect snow made skating tough today, but a couple of more circuits by the PB should make conditions perfect for Saturday. The classic tracks were deep and firm, with no dirt showing. They should be perfect for Sunday’s races. Come join the fun!

Unlisted trail: Willow Creek Golf Course, Vassar MI: Made an attempt at crust skiing today with recent freeze and thaw going on here in the Thumb of Michigan. Snow depth varies from a half inch to around 6 inches. The crust was best where the snow depth was lower. In deeper areas, I would still sink through from time to time. Also, this golf course has begun (unfortunately) plowing some of the cart paths for some of the walkers who like to frequent the greens in the winter, so I had to take my skis off a few times.

The crust may be more suitable for an average or smaller skier (I am built more like a tight end than an endurance athlete), but I would still say one more freeze/thaw cycle would help sturdy the crust up for much better conditions. But it was still good to get out, especially since it is so close to home for me!

Black Mountain: The volunteer groomers were out setting track on the whole Cheboygan side and 2/3rd of the PI side. There’s a skate deck, but it is not firm or even. Still dealing with low snow totals. The classic track looks great. If you are on FB find our page at Black Mountain Nordic Ski Trails/TOMTC. The only parking lot not connected is the 489 lot. Still no grooming of the BEAST

Sleeping Bear Dunes: The park volunteers are rolling trails in the park today, tomorrow will set tracks and a ginzu finish.
To check their groomed trails you must first go to their park trail website as they are late or don't pass on trail status with NSR in a timely manner if at all as volunteers are unpredictable...
Kevinski slowski

Reindeer Run Nordic Center: Empire airport snowmobile traihead
Groomer on course from trailhead heading to thompsonville and back this morning. Probably will repeat by the weekend.
Skate city for sure, go have fun!
Everywhere else is unbelievable deep classic snow just waiting.

Michaywe: We received just over 5" of new snow yesterday. The Lake, Herringbone, River and Golf Course Trails are freshly groomed with classic tracks set. Expect soft conditions. Tomorrow I'm planning to hit the upper trails.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We received 6 inches of snow in this last system since Sunday! The trails are all freshly groomed with classic tracks and corduroy skate lanes. Conditions are the best they've been in years. Get out there and enjoy it!

Hanson Hills: We received 6-8 inches of new system snow yesterday. Groomer Jason will be out breaking trails open this morning, rolling and setting track on Wilderness first. Pisten Bulley will be out combing and setting fresh tracks on green, blue, yellow and brown. Please give us a little time this morning to allow trails to set up.

MON, FEB 3

Nubs Nob: This morning’s snow was the icing on the cake over a well layered and constructed base .
Beautiful groom - well done Nubs crew ! LF 7

Huron Meadows Metropark: Skating was actually really good from 12 to 3 today. A few areas started to get slushy but overall was good. Classic tracks looked good in the woods. Still a double track for most of the trail.

Dunes Golf Club: Fyi
Over a foot of the white stuff in the last 36hrs! It is nice to see a good base like this.
Bust your own or stay at home... Or ski somewhere else

I will watch for the groomer at the snowmobile trailhead. This last 5 days was a blast with very good skate conditions till today's snow burst... Groomers keeping the trail wide like never before so it remains flat.

Stokely Creek: Perfect deep classic tracks on Hakon Lien today. Easy climbing on Madshus skins and smooth, controllable, looong downhills! And Canada is still mostly sane and very friendly as long as you aren't a redhatter.

Hanson Hills: Trails are beautiful!! Groomer Dan is out combing skate lanes this morning and will be setting fresh track on Red. Lodge and Trails open 9am.

Michaywe: 2-3 inches of wet snow so far and still snowing. Skating deck has been groomed and tracks have been set on the lake loop, herringbone, the river trail, and the front 9 loop.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We have received about 4 inches of fresh snow, and it continues to snow. Groomer Butch is rolling the trails this morning to pack the snowfall before grooming it. Likely to be a full day grooming effort today. It's truly a winter wonderland out there!

Hanson Hills: I am not sure who posted on my behalf this morning... (Hackers?)

Here is the real Hanson Hills post for Feb 3 at Hanson:
3-6 inches of snowfall predicted today. Groomer Dan is only combing Yellow and Easy Return this morning. Then we are going to let the snow fall instead of chasing our tail. Full Grooming will begin again Tuesday morning.

Lodge and Trails open 9am.

Hanson Hills: Trails are beautiful!! Groomer Dan is out combing skate lanes this morning and will be setting fresh track on Red. Lodge and Trails open 9am.

Forbush Corner: Looks like a morning of wet system snow, maybe 3 inches or so. We will be grooming the east side this morning. Open 9 to 5.
