B.A.R.C Kids Cross Country Ski Program

What:

Members of Team NordicSkiRacer and the Brighton Area Recreation Connection (BARC) once again will be teaching kids - and their parents - how to cross country ski! We'll be skiing on the lighted man-made snow trail at Huron Meadows Metropark just south of Brighton, Michigan. There are four sessions, each on Wednesday night starting at 6:00pm (arrive early!).

Online Registration. The class includes trail pass, ski equipment rental, instruction, and treats after the ski.

Wed Jan 18, 2023: Clinic #1

Go over basics of skiing and safety in the building and work on getting skis, boot and pole sizes down on paper and send the kids out to do a short lesson in groups. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm.

Wed Jan 25, 2023: Clinic #2

Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm.

Wed Feb 1, 2023: Clinic #3

Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 8pm.

Wed Feb 8, 2023: Race Night!

Kids will show up for race at 6pm to receive bibs, skis, boots, poles, and information for a 6:30pm event start. After the racers finish they will get a finisher medal, pizza, drink, goody bag with Metro park items and hot cocoa at the lodge. Rules: Ages K-8, but the small kids 6 and under should have a parent with them on the trail to assist with falls and lessens Limit of 40 kids.

Parents are welcome to participate in the evening lessons or ski on their own. They will just need to reserve their equipment at Huron Meadows Metropark ski rental reservations.  They will need to use the 5pm time slot on the reservation sheet and the sheets are not active until 7 days before date of reservation. (Note: this site does not always work. If you are unable to make a reservation, just show up at the park and park staff will get you set up).

Metroparks Daily or Annual park pass required.

Have kids arrive for clinics 10-15 minutes before the clinic to insure the have the most time on snow.
