LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

FRI, JAN 18

Crystal Mountain: We did not groom yesterday and today so I went out and skied so I could give you a first hand report. Yesterday I parked by the art park and skied upper stag, does, squirrel, went down aspen climb and came back on loons. The hills were fast but manageable (read-I didn't fall). This morning I skied Jacks and Hawks along with everything I skied yesterday. We got a little dusting which made the hills more friendly. The tracks are better than I thought they would be (I'm a strider) on Loons and upper Stag. It was beautiful out there. Come on over and enjoy the sunshine before it gets cold.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Started my ski just before daylight and grooming began. Conditions were very good. With the warm temp the trail stayed soft enough for great control. Classic tracks were in good shape as well.

Huron Meadows Metropark: Bucks Run will be groomed this morning, and should be ready for use by 9:00. We will be hauling some snow to the connector trail from the woods to the ski center. Please use caution if maintenance is present on this section of the trail. Otherwise enjoy!

Dunes Golf Club: Great fields of white! 4" + with 1" new powder. Classic tracks filled in but skiable and my skate track ( 3rd fairway east by the portapotty) has a firm and fast deck. Overall for natural backcountry cross-country skiing us can't beat it... Make your own fun!!!

Forbush Corner: After yesterday’s fresh groom on the east side and good results for both the skate lane and classic tracks, Larry is headed out to groom the west side. About one inch of fresh snow that squeezed itself out of the clouds last night will also enhance the trail system. 15% off on hard and soft goods continues in the shop.

Stokely Creek: Over 4 inches of fresh snow in the last couple days. Guests are saying, "skiing on Stokely trails gets better every year!" Groomers going out again today. Beautiful morning with all the trees covered with snow. As I mentioned on Face Book today, our rooms for the month of February are almost totally booked. The next couple weeks have availability.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: We received about a half inch of snow last night, and the Headquarters trails are in really good shape! Trail doctors Mike and Tony did a lot of snow spreading and some targeted trail doctoring this past week, which yielded fantastic results. Groomer Mike will snow comb the skating lanes this morning, and set fresh tracks on the Trappers Cabin trail. The best conditions are on the Rolling Hills, Trappers Cabin, Wild Turkey and Manitou trails. Many of the hard-packed spots were re-covered by snow doctoring efforts yesterday, so aside from bits of oak leaves and a couple remaining hard-packed spots under the big trees, it's overall great skiing and should be enjoyed by many!

Today's Stone Turtle Day Lodge Lunch Special is a bowl of chili and a Bosco stick for $5! Join us this weekend for lots of great events, including Full Moon Night Skiing tonight from 6PM-8PM, a free ski lesson Saturday at 10:30, and a Gourmet Mac 'n Cheese Bar all weekend!

THU, JAN 17

Vasa Trail: Did ski lessons and coached the TCAPs middle schoolers at Timber Ridge. TR trails were goos for skating. No classic tracks but still good snow. The Vasa trail did have leaves in the tracks but the skating lanes were really good.

Hickory Hills: Great skating conditions at Hickory tonight. Nice wide trails and no tree debris or leaves. Now we just need some lights on the new loop.

Shanty Creek - Schuss Mtn: Great skiing for how little snow is on the trail. Pine Cone and Winterbrook are firm with a little crust and ice in spots. The groomers widened the skate lanes today on Mountain Creek so the edges are a little soft but classic tracks looked reasonably deep and the skate lane was smooth save the occasional local's bootprint. Mountain Creek and Meadow Run have some thin spots and sticks/leaves but overall the trail is fast and obstacles are easily avoidable although you might not want to use your best skis.

Forbush Corner: Really nice conditions....I skied the freshly groomed East Trail System. Classic tracks were deep and very nice. VR 40 worked beautifully for kick. Skating lane looked good with firm base but a bit of softer tilled up snow on top for good control. There are a few areas with some dirt, but nothing that will really get in your way. A little fresh snow falling tonight.

Noquemanon Trail-Forestville: Nice conditions at Forestville today. Skate lane was firm and pretty fast for how cold it is. Noque was groomed all the way to 510 and all the way down to the ponds. Groomers are focusing on the race course, so make sure you get out and ski those trails, the ones that typically don’t get groomed regularly.

Forbush Corner: Tillers are great. Fabulously fast and Comfortingly controllable. It will be a great weekend.

Forbush Corner: Larry is finishing up powertiling, combing and setting track on the east side. Firm skating deck, not icy. Nice deep classic track. Come on out !

Cross Country Ski Headquarters: The skiing on the Headquarters trails is good to great! Groomer Mike snow combed the skating lanes on all trails last night, and after setting up with the cold temps overnight, the skating will be excellent on the Rolling Hills, Trappers Cabin, and most of the Wild Turkey and Manitou trails. Classic tracks are in fair to good condition on most trails - just steer clear of the Tall Pines trail for now. Overall conditions are very pleasing and should be enjoyed thoroughly - even Stu, a true perfectionist, came in from skiing after work last night with nothing but smiles. Get out there and enjoy it!

Stone Turtle Lunch Special is Chili and a cheesy Bosco Stick for $5. Check our Facebook page for a live video trail report later today!

Boyne Mountain: Trails are holding in very good condition. We had some wind yesterday so Nick regroomed the lower trails. There are still thin spots under the pines.

Vistas has a slightly different path right now in preparation for the JNQ on February 2 and 3. Skiers are reporting that it is FUN:)

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! The sun is shining and it's not windy, so you know what to do!

Hanson Hills: Trails are looking good for this weekends Cote Dame Marie. Groomer Jason combed skate lanes this morning. We still have decent older tracks set on all trails, we do not have enough snow to lay new tracks at this time.

Forbush Corner: Due to the sub zero temperatures and lack of new snow it will take awhile to power till and get trails refreshed. Will repost progress around 10 am.
