LATEST TRAIL CONDITIONS

WED, DEC 12

Huron Meadows Metropark: Skated on bucks today. Trail in very good condition for first day open. Snow a little soft due to warm temps and dirt in some spots. But dirt is avoidable even using good skis..
Tracks also looked good. Spots that had dirt you should be able to skip around.
Nice job for a start. And thanks guys for getting us back and going.

Bay Meadows GC: Plenty of snow here, in fact a little too much if trying to skate. Average settled depth of about 6" with no bare or thin spots, but with recent blowing and drifting the formerly semi-packed down skate lane was somewhat drifted over. The naturally skied-in classic tracks looked pretty good. After skiing the Vasa 10K for the previous four days, I finally decided it's getting a little too risky with so many thin spots, rocks starting to poke through, and trail debris that I finally abandoned it for GC skiing, and thankful to have that available.

Valley Spur: Received just a light dusting of snow overnight that freshened up the classic tracks. All trails except for H are now open. Packed, dragged and set tracks on last section of G,I and Z this morning. Z is still pretty rough but G and I are pretty good. Starting to sound like a broken record but we need some fresh snow!

Hickory Hills: (Vojin Hills) Went to check out the hickory hills trails today. A few days ago they were groomed or at least rolled. Snow pack was in decent shape but so many walkers on the trail pretty much eliminated the grooming. It seems when we do get good skiing conditions, that it might be hard to keep the walkers off the trail. I did find a nice little loop on the flat section that was always used in the past and found a way to navigate a few hills and return to the same loop. Not sure if it was intended to be skied this way, but I thought it was a perfect loop and it could reach snow making guns to make it available all winter. The Hickory Hills course itself is very difficult, it is always hard up or crazy down. I don't see the hills loop attracting a lot of skiers. In fact on the way down I took my skis off and walked down. I know Vojin would have yelled at me "if you can't ski down the hills, then don't put your skis on in the first place"

Noquemanon Trail-Forestville: Forestville Real Grooming Report: This morning we are grooming skate lanes on the Noque’ to the pines, Animoosh, Chiwaji bypass, Muckwa, Migizi, Boozoo, Papasay and Zhing. Yesterday rolled up to 510 and cleared saplings and branches.

As always, your feedback is appreciated. Send in pictures and you too can get your K marker moved to the front of the line.

Saux Head: Saturday Tim and John groomed and tracked the entire system groomed and track set. Skiing is excellent.

Fit Strip: Trails were groomed Thursday and are in very good shape.

Big Bay Pathway: Too little snow in the woods so trails are closed. The Big Bay Trails are groomed for classic skiing and are through the rugged hills south of Big Bay. They are spectacular but need ample snow to cover the rugged terrain. We groom as weather permits so think cold and snow. Trails are just off Co Rd 550 in Big Bay.

Hanson Hills: We are still arm wrestling with mother nature to throw some snow our way. Trails have been packed down to about an inch of base. Very marginal, and with the warmer temps and possible rain the next few days we are hopeful that it will survive. Trail is skiable with rock ski's, but we recommend that you stay off the trail system at this time. Our neighbors at Forbush corners have decent snow, and are groomed for skating on the east trails, please pay them a visit!

Thanks everyone! We are trying I assure you!

Huron Meadows Metropark: We have snow!!!!
Staff will finish working on a 1.2k loop of Buck's Run in the trees today around 2pm. You will need to walk from the ski center to the woods to access the trail. We will have a nice skate lane with a shallow track set as well. B skis for skating, just because we have a few spots of dirt mixed in the snow. Classic would recommend rock skis, just because the track is not set yet and can only geuss the out come. Will not be adding any more snow this week due to warm temps and the concern for tracking dirt/mud on the trail. Building open at 2pm see website for a list of new hours operation.
