Several short groomed trails, classic and skating.  Frequently, there is skiable snow in the back bowl when the ground is bare everywhere else.  Many people ski here after work - there are enough city lights to see where you're going in the dark.

Where I learned to XC ski. Hilly but ungroomed.

Not groomed, but it might be the only place with snow. 

30K. Excellent grooming, even midweek! Good place to skate or classic.

Grooming is fair (tracks) to good (skating). Grooming is done via snowmobile with track setter.

Cross Country Ski Touring Center (Golf Course) with marked trails, rental equipment and food bar, but snow and grooming (classic only) can be poor. Some of the best trails overlap with the horse trails, and the horses can take out all the grooming.

Buy a rope tow pass, ski around the base of the slopes to warm up, then start climbing those hills. See if you can beat the chairlift up! Or get a group of people together & setup a slalom course (go up & down it).

Charlevoix X/C Ski Trail
Mt. McSauba, Charlevoix

Jan 1, 2001: 2K loop, lighted. It appeared to be about 4 feet wide and simply groomed by a snowmobile running over it.

20 kilometers of cross country trails that wind around Lake Michaywe', with a lighted loop for night skiing.

RUMOR: As of 2004, they've stopped grooming the ski trails. Do not know if this is true or not.

The trail winds through dense forests dominated by white pines which have often referred to as the "enchanted forest" after a snowfall. The "quiet" skier often encounters local wildlife, such as whitetail deer, ruffled grouse, squirrel, or the growing population of wild turkey.

The Leelanau Trail is 15.4 miles long and over 80% of it is non-paved, so ideal for skiing in the winter.  Also, some of it is paved for summer skiers.  The trail was once a Michigan Scenic Railroad and takes users through beautiful rural countryside.

25+ K groomed classic & skating. Michigan Cup race site.
  The Vasa Pathway is located in Acme Township and is a 28 mile system of trails in the Pere Marquette State Forest.  In the winter, the trail is groomed for both skating and classic skiing by TART Trails volunteers.  The Vasa Race takes place on trail every February.  There is free parking and bathroom facilities at the trailhead which is off Bartlett Road.
