Learn to Ski
Classes for Kids and Their Parents
For the past several years, Team NordicSkiRacer with the Brighton Area Recreation Connection (B.A.R.C.) has offered cross country ski classes for kids and their parents so we can introduce the next generation to the sport. This season's classes will start in January on the lighted Buck's Run man-made snow trail at Huron Meadows Metropark. The classes include trail pass, rental skis, and instruction.
Rules: Ages K-8, but the small kids 6 and under should have a parent with them on the trail to assist with falls and lessons. Limit of 40 kids. Have kids arrive for sessions 10-15 minutes BEFORE the clinic to put on boots and get skis to insure they have the most time on snow. Metroparks Daily or Annual park pass required. HAVE FUN!!
Parents and guardians can register, too! Ski with the kids and also get some instruction! Parents will just need to reserve their equipment at on the Huron Meadows XC Ski Reservation site. Select Huron Meadows under "park", then use the 5pm time slot on the reservation sheet. The sheets are not active until 7 days before date of reservation.

Cost: $65. Includes ski rental, trail pass, instruction, 4 sessions.

Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Please arrive early, get your boots on and be ready to head outside

Go over basics of skiing and safety in the building and work on getting skis, boot and pole sizes down on paper and send the kids out to do a short lesson in groups. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 7:30pm.
Session #2 Wed Jan 24, 2023, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 7:30pm.
Session #3 Wed Jan 31, 2023, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Get instructions from instructors and break into groups and head out on Bucks Run. Head back into lodge and have snacks and hot cocoa exit building by 7:30pm.
Session 4: Race Night, Wed Feb 6, 2023, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Kids will show up for race at 6pm to receive bibs, skis, boots, poles, and information for a 6:30pm event start. After the racers finish they will get a finisher medal, pizza, drink, goody bag with Metro park items and hot cocoa at the lodge.
